Yesterday I had the honor of documenting this beautiful couple at The Toledo Museum of Art. These two met at The University of Toledo – GO ROCKETS! They’ve been together for 6 years and are ready for their intimate, Florida wedding! I’m honestly so jealous that they get to run away to a sandy beach and confess their love for each other in front of their closest family and friends! That seems like an absolute dream come true to me. I’m glad I had the chance to document their engagement back home before their trip!
What made this session so special was these two came into it thinking they were going to be awkward. The end result was everything but awkward! I have to say this is a very common feeling amongst all of my couples. I’d say 98% of my clients are not professional models. You know what though? I LOVE the opportunity to start from scratch and teach the posing basics! If one of my couples were to say they felt awkward the entire time, I did not do my job correctly. As a photographer, it is my job to direct my clients in a way that is comfortable to who they are and genuinely show their love for each other! Most of the time, the time my clients have had their pictures professionally taken was their senior portraits.
I’m not trying to say your senior photographer taught you wrong, but posing with a second person can be tricky! That’s why it’s super important to have a wedding photographer who enjoys directing their couples in a natural way! You don’t have to stay up the night before your engagement session studying Pinterest poses or practice posing in the mirror. All you have to do is show up ready to have fun! No need for nervousness or taking a couple vodka shots beforehand!
